One of the easiest way to just manually install from the tarball. For example,
$ wget https://github.com/crystal-lang/crystal/releases/download/1.4.1/crystal-1.4.1-1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
$ tar xvzf crystal-1.4.1-1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
$ sudo mv crystal-1.4.1-1 /opt/crystal
You can update the system PATH, for instance, in /etc/profile if you are using BASH.
Then, a quick verification:
$ which crystal
/opt/crystal/bin/crystal
$ crystal --version
Crystal 1.4.1 [b7377c041] (2022-04-22)
LLVM: 10.0.0
Default target: x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
