An Overview of the C Programming Language
C was invented in the Bell Labs in the 1970s, along with the Unix operating system. C is a low-level systems programming language, and most of the widely used modern operating systems are mainly written in C. C is currently managed by the ISO.
The ISO C Main Features
- C is a general-purpose programming language that are compiled to machine code.
- C is an imperative procedural language with a static type system.
- C supports structured programming as well as basic functional programming.
- C provides low-level access to memory, e.g., via pointers and arrays.
- Programs written in ISO C (previously, ANSI C) are generally portable across different operating systems.
